the Marlborough Sounds
Dive on the awesome Mikhail Lermontov,
the biggest cruise ship wreck in the world that is accessible for recreational
scuba diving in New Zealand
It is a pity that Jaques Cousteau never dived this, it would be in his World top 10 dives
A real impressive big wreck in excellent diving condition, not a scuttled "fake wreck "
You
can dive this marvelous ship in 14 meter of water with your open water
certificate, or choose to go deeper and penetrate with your advanced or
wreck diving qualification.
This Russian cruise liner is 20 years old in 2006, "the most awesome dive " in New Zealand
There are many reliable dive sites around the Marlborough Sounds, the ferry to North Island ( or South Island depending which way you go ) departs in Picton, why not spend some days exploring this water sports jewel of New Zealand
Go and dive on the beautiful Rangitoto, another top wreck experience or dive the wreck of the Lastingham also one of New Zealand's top dives , Or the fascinating Koi ship wreck, the Vara with its massive conger eels, but then there is also the Marine reserve Long Island, or Wellington bay, so much to do all in the Marlborough Sounds where good diving is guaranteed
( unlike many dive destinations in the rest of New Zealand, where many trips are cancelled because of sea state or bad weather )

A top Dive destination in New Zealand, the surrounding scenic beauty of the myriad green coves with it's walking tracks in particular the famous Queen Charlotte track, the mountain biking and water sports in it's sheltered spots like kayaking, sailing and fishing, a real holiday destination that will keep you well occupied with activities.
This Area is the top holiday spot in the South Island for New Zealanders, it was a well kept secret amongst the boaties but now Waikawa Bay Marina is the second biggest Marina in New Zealand, it is the gateway to the Marvelous Marlborough Sounds and waiting to be truly discovered by International visitors.
When you are on a dive trip you are not seeing the wonderful underwater world but ofcourse also the green lush hills and golden sandy beaches dotted around the many coves and historic New Zealand landmarks that are abound in the Queen Charlotte Sound.
