The New Zealand
Flag.
The following design has been arrived
at by me after many other concepts I have done
which have been similar to other designs. My
thoughts seem to cement after a trip to
Rarotonga for the Oceania Master Athletic games.
Listening to a culture which is connected to the
Maori and seeing the pride in which athletes
carried the traditional flag and the black
background with the silver fern flags.

The blue represents our location in the
world with sea and ocean surrounding us.
The red and white zig zag represents the
meeting of two traditional cultures in Aotearoa,
the land of the long white cloud.Black has been a distinctive colour used by
our sports people and proudly worn by many New
Zealanders.Our country is often perceived to be a clean
green country, therefore , the green would
remind the world that we stand firm on many
policies that relate to the environment. Not to
mention, capture the way that New Zealand is
seen.The silver fern represent the many branches
of cultures that are in our modern age in this
country.The southern cross on our flag is a simple
reminder of our location in the world and our
links with our neighbours and is emotive and
symbolic to the people who have served in the
World Wars.I would hope that our New Zealand flag would
have simplicity, key values, and still be able
to be presented commercially and
internationally.Feel
